checkrides
Pilot certification exams
Checkrides are evaluations in which a pilot demonstrates flying skills and knowledge to an examiner.
Required for earning or renewing aviation certificates and ratings, a checkride typically combines an oral examination with a practical flight test: She passed her private pilot checkride on the first attempt.
The term extends to similar proficiency tests in other fields.
