account freeze
Funds temporarily locked
An account freeze is a restriction placed on a bank account or financial account that prevents the holder from withdrawing or transferring funds.
Banks may freeze accounts for suspected fraud, courts may order freezes during legal disputes, and governments may freeze assets as sanctions or during investigations.
The IRS put a freeze on his accounts until he paid his back taxes.
The funds remain in the account but cannot be accessed until the freeze is lifted.
