chain reactions
One triggers another
A chain reaction is a sequence where each event triggers the next.
In chemistry and physics, it describes processes where products of one reaction initiate further reactions—as in nuclear fission, where splitting atoms release neutrons that split more atoms.
Figuratively, any cascading sequence of causes and effects: The factory closure set off a chain reaction of layoffs across the region.
