carrier-based
Flying from ships
Carrier-based describes military aircraft, operations, or personnel that operate from an aircraft carrier rather than from land-based facilities.
The term appears almost exclusively in naval and military contexts: carrier-based fighter jets, carrier-based strike capabilities.
A carrier-based aircraft must be specially designed for the unique demands of launching from and landing on a ship at sea, including reinforced landing gear and tailhooks for arresting wires.
