carriage returns
Text line endings
A carriage return is a control character that moves the cursor or print head to the beginning of a line.
The term comes from typewriters, where a lever physically returned the carriage to start a new line.
In computing, carriage returns appear in text files as line-ending characters, though different operating systems handle them differently.
The file had extra carriage returns that broke the formatting.
