carburetion

Air-fuel mixture creation

Carburetion is the process of mixing air with fuel to create a combustible vapor in an internal combustion engine.

Before fuel injection became standard in the late twentieth century, carburetors handled this task in most gasoline engines.

The term persists in discussions of older vehicles and small engines like those in lawnmowers and chainsaws.
