car share
Communal auto arrangement
Car share refers to a system where multiple people have access to vehicles without individual ownership.
Members typically pay a fee to use cars stationed around a city, picking them up and dropping them off as needed: I use a car share for errands since I don't need a vehicle every day.
The term also describes informal arrangements where neighbors or coworkers share access to a single vehicle.
As a verb, to car share is to participate in such a system.
