canon event
Fate-shaping turning point
A canon event is a pivotal life experience that shapes who someone becomes—typically a hardship or loss that, however painful, is essential to one's development.
The term comes from the 2023 film *Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse*, where certain events must happen to make someone truly Spider-Man.
Online, it's used to reframe personal struggles as formative rather than merely unfortunate: Getting dumped before prom was my canon event.
The implication is that interfering with such moments—your own or someone else's—risks disrupting the person you're meant to become.
