Uncle Ben
Boxed rice brand
Uncle Ben is a brand name for packaged rice products, featuring the image of an elderly Black man—a figure critics have linked to racist "uncle" stereotypes from the Jim Crow era.
The brand rebranded to Ben's Original in 2020.
Separately, Uncle Ben is a character in Spider-Man comics whose death motivates Peter Parker to become a superhero, yielding the famous line: With great power comes great responsibility.
