candlesnuffers
Wick-capping bell tools
Candlesnuffers are a scissor-like tool for extinguishing candles and trimming wicks.
The hinged blades have a small box attachment that catches the snipped wick, preventing smoke and smoldering.
Before electric lighting, they were common household items: She reached for the candlesnuffers on the mantelpiece.
Now mostly decorative antiques.
