cancel mobs
Online shaming groups
Cancel mobs are groups of people—usually on social media—who collectively target someone for perceived wrongdoing, demanding consequences like job loss or public shaming.
The term is critical, framing coordinated criticism as irrational mob behavior rather than legitimate accountability: The cancel mob came for her after those old tweets surfaced.
Often used by those who see cancel culture as excessive or performative outrage.
