senior minister
Top government official
A senior minister is a high-ranking member of a government's cabinet, typically holding one of the most important portfolios such as finance, foreign affairs, or defense.
The term distinguishes these officials from junior ministers, who serve in subordinate roles.
In some contexts, senior minister is a formal title for an elder statesman given ceremonial status: Lee Kuan Yew served as Senior Minister of Singapore after stepping down as Prime Minister.
