buy the farm
Meet one's end
Buy the farm is American slang meaning to die, especially suddenly or violently.
The phrase originated in military aviation, possibly from the dark joke that a pilot's death benefits would pay off the family mortgage.
It remains common in casual speech, often with a wry or euphemistic tone: He bought the farm in a motorcycle accident.
