bullet casings

Ammunition's metal remnants

Bullet casings are the metal cylinders that hold a bullet, propellant, and primer together as a single cartridge.

After firing, the casing is ejected from the gun.

Investigators collect casings at crime scenes because markings from the firing pin and ejector can identify the weapon used: Police found three bullet casings near the body.
