bull bars

Front vehicle armor

Bull bars are a metal framework mounted to the front of a vehicle, designed to protect against collisions with animals or other obstacles.

Common on trucks and SUVs in rural areas where livestock or wildlife pose hazards, they're also called roo bars in Australia (for kangaroos) or brush guards.

In urban settings, they're often purely decorative: He added bull bars to his pickup even though he never left the city.
