bubo
Infected lymph swelling
A bubo is a swollen, inflamed lymph node, especially in the groin or armpit.
Buboes are characteristic of bubonic plague, the form of plague that devastated medieval Europe as the Black Death.
The swellings result from bacterial infection spreading through the lymphatic system: The patient presented with painful buboes and high fever.
