brush country
Dense shrub terrain
Brush country is terrain dominated by dense, low-growing shrubs and thorny vegetation rather than trees or open grassland.
The term is especially associated with the arid regions of South Texas and northern Mexico, where mesquite, cactus, and chaparral make travel difficult: We hunted quail in the brush country south of San Antonio.
Also called simply the brush.
