brown dwarves
Substellar massive objects
Brown dwarves is a plural of brown dwarf, a celestial object too massive to be a planet but not massive enough to sustain hydrogen fusion like a true star.
They occupy a middle ground between gas giants like Jupiter and the smallest stars, glowing faintly from residual heat: The telescope detected several brown dwarves in the nearby star cluster.
