brontosauruses

Long-necked herbivores

Brontosauruses is the plural of brontosaurus, a massive long-necked dinosaur from the Late Jurassic period.

The name means "thunder lizard," evoking the ground-shaking footsteps of these enormous herbivores.

Though scientists briefly reclassified it as Apatosaurus, brontosaurus has been restored as a valid genus—and never left popular imagination: Kids love drawing brontosauruses.
