bridging loan

Covers until permanent mortgage

A bridging loan is short-term financing that covers a gap between two transactions—most commonly when buying a new home before selling the current one.

The loan "bridges" the period when you need funds but haven't yet received them from a pending sale or longer-term financing.

Also called a bridge loan, especially in American English.
