brassies
Two-woods for golfers
Brassies is the plural of brassie, a dated term for a type of golf club—specifically a wooden club with a brass sole plate, used for long fairway shots.
The brassie was roughly equivalent to what's now called a 2-wood: He reached for his brassie on the second fairway.
The term survives mainly in historical golf writing.
