brachiate

Travel by arms

Brachiate describes the distinctive arm-over-arm swinging movement that gibbons and some other primates use to travel through trees, hanging from branches and propelling themselves forward with their long arms.

As a verb, to brachiate is to move in this fashion: Gibbons brachiate effortlessly through the forest canopy.

In botany, brachiate describes plants with branches that extend in opposite pairs at right angles to the stem.
