bottlenose whale

Bulbous-headed dolphin relative

A bottlenose whale is a beaked whale with a distinctive bulbous forehead and short beak, found in cold North Atlantic and Southern Ocean waters.

These deep-diving whales can reach about 30 feet in length and were historically hunted for oil.

The name comes from their bottle-shaped snout, similar to the bottlenose dolphin.
