borescopes

Cavity inspection tools

A borescope is a thin optical device for inspecting the inside of narrow cavities—engine cylinders, gun barrels, pipes, or other spaces too confined for direct viewing.

The instrument uses lenses, mirrors, or fiber optics to transmit an image from its tip to an eyepiece or screen: The mechanic used a borescope to check for carbon buildup in the cylinders.
