border war
Territorial line fighting
A border war is armed conflict between neighboring countries or regions over disputed territory along their shared boundary.
The fighting typically concentrates near the border itself rather than penetrating deep into either side.
The term also applies figuratively to ongoing rivalries between adjacent states or institutions: the border war between Kansas and Missouri goes back to the 1850s.
