boot sale

Trunk-based trading event

A boot sale, short for car boot sale, is a British market where people sell secondhand goods from the backs of their vehicles.

Sellers pay a small fee to park in a field or car park and display items from their car boots (trunks): We found an antique lamp at a boot sale for five pounds.

The American equivalent is a yard sale or garage sale.
