black rain
Radioactive drops falling
Black rain is rainfall contaminated with soot, ash, or radioactive particles, typically following a nuclear explosion or large fire.
The term became prominent after the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, when dark, oily rain fell on survivors: The black rain left stains on their skin and clothing.
It also describes rain darkened by industrial pollution or wildfire debris.
