black culture
African diaspora traditions
Black culture refers to the distinctive traditions, artistic expressions, language patterns, and social practices developed by Black communities, particularly African Americans.
It encompasses music (jazz, blues, hip-hop, gospel), speech patterns (African American Vernacular English), culinary traditions (soul food), religious practices, fashion, and shared historical experiences rooted in the African diaspora and shaped by slavery, segregation, and ongoing struggles for equality.
The term recognizes both the creative resilience of Black communities and their profound influence on mainstream American and global culture: Hip-hop emerged from Black culture in the Bronx.
