black ash
Basket-weaving wood source
Black ash is a North American hardwood tree that grows in swamps and wetlands, valued for its flexibility when split into thin strips.
This quality makes it the traditional choice for basket weaving among Native American craftspeople, particularly in the Northeast: The Penobscot have made black ash baskets for centuries.
The wood is less commercially important than white ash.
