bid whist
Spades-like card game
Bid whist is a partnership trick-taking card game popular in African American communities, evolved from classic whist with the addition of bidding and a trump suit.
Partners sit across from each other and bid on how many tricks they'll take, with the highest bidder naming trump.
The game emphasizes both skill and table talk: We played bid whist at every family reunion.
It holds cultural significance as a social tradition passed through generations.
