biblical references
Holy text allusions
Biblical references are allusions to stories, figures, phrases, or themes from the Bible.
They appear throughout Western literature, art, and everyday speech, often without explicit citation: a David and Goliath matchup, the patience of Job, a good Samaritan.
Someone making biblical references may be invoking religious authority, drawing on shared cultural knowledge, or simply using familiar shorthand for complex ideas.
The phrase can also describe the practice of citing chapter and verse to support an argument.
