bath salts

Fragrant soak additive

Bath salts are crystalline substances added to bathwater for fragrance, softening, or therapeutic effect—Epsom salts being a traditional example.

The term also refers to synthetic stimulant drugs sold under innocent-sounding names to evade drug laws.

These contain compounds chemically similar to amphetamines and can cause hallucinations, paranoia, and violent behavior: The man was high on bath salts when police found him.
