sponge bath
Immobile patient's wash
A sponge bath is washing the body without immersion in water, using a wet sponge or cloth.
It's the standard method for cleaning patients who can't get out of bed or into a shower: The nurse gave him a sponge bath.
Outside medical settings, it suggests making do without proper bathing facilities.
