batch files
Automated DOS commands
Batch files are text files containing a sequence of commands that execute automatically when run, eliminating the need to type each command individually.
In Windows, they use the .bat extension; the concept extends to shell scripts on Unix systems.
System administrators use batch files to automate repetitive tasks: I wrote a batch file to back up the database every night.
