basket catch
Hands-at-belt grab
A basket catch is a fielding technique, mainly in baseball, where a player catches a fly ball at waist or chest level with the glove palm-up, cradling the ball like it's dropping into a basket.
It's considered riskier than catching above the shoulder but was famously used by Willie Mays.
He made a basket catch look effortless.
