basilar
At the base
Basilar means relating to or located at the base, particularly of the skull or brain.
The term appears almost exclusively in anatomy: the basilar artery runs along the base of the brainstem, and the basilar membrane in the inner ear is essential for hearing.
Basilar skull fractures are serious injuries.
