baptismal vow
Sacred initiation oath
A baptismal vow is a solemn promise made during the Christian rite of baptism.
Traditionally, the person being baptized—or godparents speaking on behalf of an infant—renounces sin and Satan and affirms faith in Christ and the church.
Many denominations encourage members to periodically renew their baptismal vows: The congregation renewed their baptismal vows at the Easter vigil.
