bandido

Desperado on horseback

Bandido is Spanish for bandit or outlaw, used in English to evoke the romanticized Mexican bandit of Western folklore—mustachioed, armed, often on horseback.

The word carries a swaggering, sometimes cartoonish connotation: He dressed up as a bandido for Halloween.

It also names a prominent outlaw motorcycle club.
