balance pole
Wire walker's staff
A balance pole is a long rod held horizontally by tightrope walkers and other performers to help maintain equilibrium.
The pole's weight and length lower the performer's center of gravity and increase rotational inertia, making small corrections easier: The acrobat gripped her balance pole as she stepped onto the wire.
