backheel

Behind-the-leg pass

A backheel is a kick in soccer where the player strikes the ball backward with their heel, often to pass to a teammate behind them.

The move is flashy and somewhat risky—useful for surprising defenders when a forward pass isn't available: He flicked a backheel to his teammate at the edge of the box.

As a verb, to backheel is to execute such a kick.
