backcourts
Guards and their territory
Backcourts is the plural of backcourt, which has two main senses in basketball.
It refers to the half of the court containing a team's own basket—the defensive end they must advance the ball out of within ten seconds.
Backcourt also means a team's guards collectively: The backcourts of both teams struggled from three-point range.
