aviatrices

Women who fly

Aviatrices is the plural of aviatrix, a female pilot.

The term was common in the early twentieth century when women pilots were novelties: Amelia Earhart was among the most famous aviatrices of her era.

Now largely replaced by the gender-neutral pilots or aviators.
