autoimmune disorders
Body fights itself
Autoimmune disorders are conditions in which the immune system mistakenly attacks the body's own healthy cells and tissues.
Normally the immune system distinguishes between foreign invaders and the body's own cells, but in autoimmune conditions this recognition fails.
Examples include rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, multiple sclerosis, and type 1 diabetes.
She was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder after months of unexplained fatigue and joint pain.
