Vitiligo
Patchy pigment loss
Vitiligo is a skin condition in which patches of skin lose their pigment, resulting in irregular white spots or areas that contrast with surrounding skin.
The condition occurs when melanocytes, the cells responsible for skin color, are destroyed or stop functioning.
It can appear anywhere on the body and affects people of all skin tones, though it is more noticeable on darker skin.
Vitiligo is not contagious and is generally considered a cosmetic concern rather than a medical threat.
