autarchy
One ruler, unchecked
Autarchy is absolute rule by a single person—a government in which one individual holds unlimited power.
The word is rare, largely displaced by autocracy, which means the same thing.
Don't confuse it with autarky (economic self-sufficiency), though the two are sometimes spelled alike.
