aughts

Decade after Y2K

The aughts are the years 2000 through 2009—the decade whose years contain "aught" (zero) in the tens place: Music changed dramatically in the aughts.

The term follows the pattern of twenties, thirties, etc., though it never gained universal acceptance.

Some say "the two-thousands" instead.

Aught as a word for zero is old-fashioned but persists in phrases like aught-six for 2006 or 1906.
