arrondissements

French administrative zones

Arrondissements are administrative districts in France, particularly the numbered subdivisions of Paris and other large French cities.

Paris has twenty arrondissements spiraling outward from the center, each with its own character and local government.

The term also applies to larger regional subdivisions within French departments.
