archivolt
Curved doorway trim
An archivolt is the ornamental molding that follows the curve of an arch, typically on the face of the arch rather than its underside.
In Romanesque and Gothic architecture, archivolts often feature carved decorations—geometric patterns, foliage, or figures—arranged in concentric bands around a doorway or window: The cathedral's portal displayed three richly carved archivolts.
