crocket

Spire's carved leaf

A crocket is an ornamental feature in Gothic architecture—a small carved projection, usually leaf-shaped or curling, that decorates the sloping edges of spires, pinnacles, and gables.

Crockets appear in regular intervals along these edges, giving Gothic structures their characteristic organic, upward-reaching quality: The cathedral's spire was adorned with crockets from base to tip.
