aquaplaned

Slid on water

Aquaplaned is the past tense of aquaplane, meaning to skim across water on a board towed by a speedboat, or more commonly, to lose traction when a vehicle's tires ride on a film of water rather than gripping the road: The car aquaplaned across the wet motorway and hit the barrier.

The loss-of-control sense dominates modern usage, especially in British English.

Americans more often say hydroplaned.
